Aggressive Pets

Well-behaved pets are generally sociable: they can accompany their owners for walks and accept visitors into the home. They stay reasonably calm and friendly when meeting other animals.

Some pets can have a hard time interacting with strangers. kids, and other pets. Some of the reasons for this can include: upbringing, past experience or socialization issues. Pets like that can sometimes growl, bark or even bite, making life really hard for their owners.

Some breeds may be more prone to problem behavior, but generally, experts believe that there are individual underlying causes– past abuse, improper socialization, even a simple “misunderstanding”, as with pets who believe that they are doing what they should and protecting the homestead. Often times, however, the owners are desperately trying to find a solution for the problem such behavior causes.

There are many ways to soothe your agitated pet and promote positive social interaction.

Here are some tips for soothing aggressive pets:

  • Identify the problem. Dominance issues or nervousness are often to blame, so consider talking to an animal behavior consultant.
  • If a usually calm animal suddenly starts acting aggressively, talk to a vet. They may be reacting to a physical problem.
  • Feed animals that fight over food in separate rooms.
  • Were there any changes in the regular household routine? New baby or a new job can often make pets act out their insecurities in an aggressive manner.
  • Exercise your pet every day– it’ll help with releasing all that pent up energy and emotion, not to mention keeping him healthy and fit. Do so on a leash, and use a muzzle if you need to.
  • Keep in mind that poor behavior can result from a poor diet. Balance your pet’s diet, and include lots of raw, unprocessed, preferably organic foods. Some experts believe tht too much protein can lead to aggression, so speak to your vet about increasing the amount of rice and vegetables in your pet’s diet.
  • Try some of the traditional natural remedies to balance your pet’s moods and behavior and support nervous system harmony. These can be an extremely effective part of a balanced, side-effect free holistic approach.
